This clinic has shorter than average waiting periods

Short Wait Time

Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, all of our doctors' offices were closed, condition could not wait until Monday, went to Bon Secours Urgent Care on Nine Mile Rd, it was not busy, we walked in, greeted by friendly receptionist, we were immediately called back, two kind and knowledgeable nurses assisted us, the doctor was quick to respond, immediately diagnosed the problem, took extra time to explain things and answer questions, printed out our full report, and sent in a prescription. Everyone was so nice and professional. If I had to say something negative the only thing I could come up with would be the room freshner in the waiting area, I am super sensitive to scents, and that wasn't even unbearable. I can understand why it might be needed if the room was full. Overall this experience was excellent. I would definitely recommend Bon Secours Urgent Care.

Severely understaffed. I had to wait over an hour because there was a bit on an emergency; patient required stitches and only one dr on staff.. My procedure was very simple—I needed wax removed from my ear. Saw the dr for all of 5 minutes before someone other than the dr treated me. Entire visit was over 2 hours. THIS SHOULD NEVER HAPPEN

Check has improved if you have a solv profile etc. but walk in is still overkill for many repeat questions. 99% same info and 12 screens (TWELVE) to review and fill out, some is verification, I get that. But allergies and past ops should persist for review, possibly current meds to edit. I get things change but some rarely do. At least the insurance section is easy and retained, thank God for that! Rinse and repeat elsewhere please 🙏 Staff friendly overall, front desk a bit aloof this night having fun late.

Recent COVID-19 Testing Reviews (20)

I went for a rapid Covid test. There was a sign in front of the door instructing people to call to register for the test, but it was turned with the Spanish Side facing me, so I was not able to read it and went inside. Was very courteous and redirected me to the sign. I went outside and call the number on the sign and waiting to hear back to register. It took quite a while to hear back, but I was not surprised, given the current situation. About 15 minutes later , Receptionist walked out to my car and asked me if I had called, because she noticed that I have not been registered yet. I thought this was above and beyond her job requirement and so kind of her to think of me and you come out to my car. She help me get registered, and within about 25 minutes I received the test from the nurse practitioner from my car. She was also extremely courteous and friendly and accommodating. She called me a hour later with my negative results. I was very impressed with the courtesy of the receptionist and a nurse practitioner, and I was very impressed with how smoothly the whole process went

Wait time only gets four stars because of the large number of Covid related testing and flu season. That four star rating is only for today’s experience and is what would be the case at any location in mid December ***. HOWEVER, this is a great location and Ms. Zuck andAshley and Paula are really great! So is the other lady, whose name I have forgotten and who is married to the male nurse. This branch and the services it provides to our community at our end of Stafford County, VA is a huge positive. Never had a bad experience in all these years. I recommend this location all of the time. It is perfect for the many needs that we have, such as shots, sports physicals, even Covid testing. So, thank you for having located the office off of White Oak road! Good quality all of the way around. Thank you for serving our community.

I traveled over an hour to this location and it was well worth it!!!The young lady who greeted me at the door was so friendly as your staff let me in a few mins early to use the restroom!! The lady who took my vitals was so nice and assured me of my temp and blood pressure readings. The Nurse Laura was so calming as I was concerned about my Covid testing. She explained everything thoroughly and was just a very sweet and kind person. I even enjoyed the music playing as I waited in my room!😀 Everything looked very clean and i thank everyone working there for such selfless service to others as they risk their lives everyday during this Pandemic! God bless everyone at Express and all First Responders all over the world🙏🏾 Thank you again for such wonderful care! I would come there again!

The call was great and I really liked the nurse! She was very kind and understanding. However, I understand the unfortunate circumstances we are in. I was the 2nd person tested for the rapid covid test and I was told I would receive an answer within 1-2 hours. It’s been 5 hours and the front desk ladies were unwilling to help me out when I called. I come here often and love my experience; however, they need to prioritize people in which the other they’ve arrived. I understand the lab must be chaotic and I trust the faculty is working as diligently as possible but this is unacceptable. I think after the results show, then the doctor should inform the patient immediately.

It was an easy process to make an online appointment. Although the time I needed an appointment was not desirable (because of influx of covid cases) they were the only location in my immediate area to get a Covid test in the same day for which the appointment was made. Staff was very courteous and were very diligent to triage my child's symptoms effectively. Their online system to receive test results was easy to access. I definitely would recommend this facility when you are unable to see your primary care physician.

I had to have a "Pre-Op" COVID test. My appointment was 8:15am (right after opening for the day). Everything went fine with getting the test. But while waiting for the results, noticed what looked like blood on the floor. Looked like it was dripping & splashed from the exam table. Quite Gross. I thought, in a time where cleanliness and sanitation is a must, this is so bad. It made me think the place wasn't sanitized. At this point I just wanted to get out of there.

I request this facility whenever I get sick. Never had an real issues with staff or anything of the sort. My only complaint is when I was swabbed for my Covid test the nurse, though very nice, was kind of heavy handed. I ended up tasting blood in the back of the throat and my nose was sensitive for hours after that. It even bled a little and that’s never happened and I’ve had previous Covid tests completed at this facility.

Really great service! The staff are friendly Moodi he came right out and was friendly and clear and gave me my Covid test it was so painless really quick I was in and out of there. I got a bit lost and they were patient with me while finding my way so I was a bit late. They didn’t make me wait extra they are great. You can also do everything over the app so def recommend to anyone

My mom needed to get covid tested so she followed me in her car and I got tested as well. They got our info thru the phone then we waited in our car behind the building and waited 3o min and got swaped from the mouth. The doctor came after to talk to us answered our questions and now to wait for the results in about a week. We are self quarantine but satisfied with whole process. Recomend highly.

Drive up COVID test was fairly easy and didn’t have to wait too long! The staff member doing the test came up to my vehicle verified who I was and did the test right there! She explained to my son exactly what she was going to do. He does not do well with tests so he sat in my lap while she swab his nostrils. I received a phone call about 15 minutes later with our results!

I was at this facility for my DOT recertification. I have to wait about 2 hours. But totally understandable as there were so many people for covid testing . Hats off for the lady who was working at the front desk . She probably responded like 50 calls on phone , another 20/30 walk in people regarding covid testing and she didn't loose her patience . Consistent every second, doing her job.

Walked up at 630pm to get a COVID test but sign said they were no longer taking walk ins. I started walking back to my vehicle when a staff member came rushing out asking if I wanted a test. Even ushered my 2 kids in to get tested as well. Everyone was so nice and friendly and the process took less than 45 minutes. Thank so much to the entire staff!!

I passed two other nextcare sites to get here and it’s worth the drive. I waited in my car until the app showed me it was my turn. The triage was quick and COVID testing was as expected (uncomfortable but necessary). I waited in my car for the physician. The physician was personable and listened to my needs and concerns. Definitely will come again for my urgent needs.

Great care started right the front desk with incredible help and guidance from Atifa. Dr. Mark Roddy was so patient and gave very helpful care. Becky was terrific giving the COVID test. As a side note, l loved the Western art work throughout the office. This office also gave amazing help to my wife last Friday. Thanks so much for the great medical care and experience. Cheers!

Loved having Rapid COVID test available! I got to the clinic before 8am, was told to call back at exactly 8am, and my calls went to voicemail for 11 mins. Tried to check in online on my iPhone on your website, but the “check in online” button only took me to a screen to make a new reservation. There was no way to get to WAHOO.

I got in line an hour and a half before it opened to make sure I was able to get seen. Because of all the Covid testing, the wait is extremely long. I appreciate the staff that was there to allow me to get seen…found out they were short staffed They are very friendly, helpful, and quick once I was in the clinic room.

I couldn’t have asked for a better experience! We showed up at the wrong time slot but the Night Watch staff was able to work with us to get the covid test taken! There was no wait and the test was quick and easy! Thank you to the nurse and the behind the scenes team who were working tonight!

- Verified patient on 8/5

I arrived and walked in to see if I could get a COVID test so I could see my father who is going into hospice. Although I waited 45 min or so the staff bent over backwards to assist me so I could have a final visit with my Dad. I will be forever thankful!

- Verified patient on 2/4

There was little to no wait until I got back to the room. Then I waited for 45 min to see a doctor and another 30 minutes for a doctors note. Seems a little much considering I had an appointment and only needed a COVID test. It was a long wait with a 2-year old

- Verified patient on 9/5

Staff was very professional and friendly from the first phone call I made outside the door indicating that I needed to be Covid tested and had symptoms , to each of the persons that came out to see me in the car. Sharp organization. I’ll be sending some patients . I’m a family doctor

About COVID Testing

Types of COVID Tests

There are two types of coronavirus tests (COVID-19 tests) available, those that can test for a current infection (viral test) and those that can test for a past infection (antibody test).

Viral COVID testing can be done in a few different ways, the most common being nose swabs, but saliva tests are becoming more popular. Some tests are processed out on-site and can provide results in as little as 30 minutes. These are called rapid COVID tests. The majority of tests, on the other hand, are collected at the clinic on-site and then submitted to off-site labs for processing. Results can take up to 2-3 days to arrive.

Antibody testing looks for a past infection and may not reveal if you have an active COVID-19 infection because antibodies can take up to three weeks to form in your body. The presence of COVID antibodies may help to prevent you from becoming infected with the same virus again; but, because the clinical understanding of COVID-19 is still developing, it's unclear how long that protection will continue.

Who should get tested for current infection

The CDC currently defines four instances where COVID testing is recommended:

  1. If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 including fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, or diarrhea.
  2. If you have been in close contact with someone with confirmed COVID-19. Close contact is defined as within 6 feet for a total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period. If you have been vaccinated, or tested positive in the past 3 months and not experiencing symptoms, you do not need to be tested.
  3. If you are unvaccinated and participated in high-risk activities where distancing is not an option. This could include travel, large social or mass gatherings, crowded indoor settings, etc.
  4. If you have been referred to get a COVID test by your healthcare provider or local health department.

How is testing done for COVID-19?

Most COVID tests are collected by a nasal swab. A member of the medical team puts a swab inside your nose for a few seconds on each side to collect the sample. After that, the samples are packaged according to CDC guidelines and tested on-site or transported to a facility for testing. The lab will test samples for the presence of the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), which causes COVID infection and either your care provider or the lab will notify you with the results as soon as they are available.

Molecular vs Antigen Tests

Viral COVID tests are available as molecular and antigen tests. The molecular test, also known as a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test, usually delivers results within a few days since most of these tests are sent to offsite labs for analysis. The average turnaround time for PCR test results is 48 hours, but in some instances may be significantly longer due to backlogs related to insufficient lab volume and capacity. Antigen tests are also known as rapid tests and have an average turnaround time of between 15 to 30 minutes.

Both PCR and rapid COVID tests can be used to test people exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, those who were close contacts to COVID-19, and those without COVID-19 symptoms who live or work in a high-risk setting (such as a nursing facility); or those individuals who are identified as part of outbreak detection and response. The rapid COVID test is also recommended for the screening of residents or healthcare workers at skilled nursing facilities along with a PCR confirmation, and for repeat screening for the early detection and prevention of outbreaks in congregate settings (such as schools, workplaces, and prisons).

COVID testing is available for free under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which includes testing for those without health insurance. To reduce the risk of facing extra costs related to COVID testing, ask your primary care doctor to recommend a free COVID test site, and confirm there are no charges or fees for the test that are not covered by your insurance plan. Additionally, avoid getting a COVID test at a hospital or free-standing emergency room, as these facilities may charge fees for COVID testing and related services.

COVID-19 Testing FAQs

  • How much does COVID testing cost?

COVID testing can be free in many circumstances. As part of their response to the epidemic, many Virginia health departments continue to provide free testing to community citizens. In some situations, commercially insured patients, as well as those on Medicare or Medicaid, may be able to get testing for free or for a small office visit fee. COVID tests can cost anything from $50 to $150 each test for cash-paying individuals or those who require speedy answers in under an hour. It's best to call your doctor before getting tested so you can get a better idea of how much the test will cost.

  • Where can I get free COVID testing?

The Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which covers testing for people without health insurance, makes COVID testing free nationwide. Check with your local Virginia health department for details since they are usually an excellent source of free COVID tests, or can at least lead you in the proper way. You can also ask your health care practitioner for a recommendation for a free COVID test location.

  • Where can I get COVID testing in Virginia?

COVID testing is available at many outlets near Virginia including urgent care centers, retail clinics, primary care offices, health departments, and more. Different venues will have different types of tests available, many at different price points. Some testing sites are allowing walk-in patients, however, many are still requiring some degree of advance booking to control patient volume.

  • Where can I get a rapid COVID test in Virginia?

Rapid testing—both PCR (molecular) and antigen tests—is offered through many Virginia-area urgent care centers and physician offices, usually at an additional cost ranging from $50 up to $150 per test. Usually this will allow you to get results back in under an hour, and require advanced booking through the provider. However, if you can wait 24 hours for your results, many labs are turning around send-out lab tests in that time frame, which could save you some money.

  • How to make an appointment for COVID testing in Virginia?

Same-day and next day appointments for COVID testing in Virginia are bookable directly through Solv. Simply browse the list of healthcare providers conducting COVID tests above, find one with a “Book Online” button, and book a time that aligns with your schedule stating “COVID-19 Test” as your reason for visit.

  • Can I get tested for antibodies if I am sick with COVID-19?

An antibody test for COVID-19 might inform you if you previously had a coronavirus infection. Because it can take between 1–3 weeks after an infection for your body to develop these antibodies, an antibody test during an active infection would not be successful. To see if you are currently infected, you need a viral test.

  • Do I need a COVID test if I have been vaccinated?

Even if you have been fully vaccinated, scientists feel you should be checked if you have been exposed to someone who has COVID-19, especially if you are suffering cold or flu symptoms that are usually associated with the coronavirus.

  • How long does COVID testing take?

A COVID test is quick. A nasal swab is used for the majority of tests, and it takes less than a minute to swab both nostrils. This means you might be in and out of the testing center in as little as 10-15 minutes, depending on where you obtain your COVID test. Testing sites may be busier than usual during popular seasons, especially around holidays, and wait times may be higher.

  • How long does it take to get COVID test results?

Most labs are sending out COVID test results via molecular (PCR) within 24-48 hours of the test. Some sites take longer, so call and ask if the reason for the test is proof for travel. Rapid tests are processed on-site and can provide findings in less than an hour, sometimes as quickly as 15 minutes.

  • Do COVID tests detect the Delta variant and Omicron variant?

Regular COVID tests are able to detect both the Delta variant and Omicron variant in that they can determine whether or not you have the coronavirus. However, they can't tell which variation is involved. That would necessitate genomic sequencing, which is a different process from regular virus testing that not all labs can undertake. Sequencing is uncommon and can cost up to $100 per test. Since the treatment is the same for any variant, it is not clinically useful to an individual patient to know whether the infection was caused by a variant or not.
