Staff was great and took us in immediately in a holiday weekend.  This was the only facility we found open and was well worth the 15 minute drive.   Convenient location and outstanding staff that was caring and very responsive.  Highly recommend!!

After a couple of days of visiting a hospital and not feeling well i decided to go into this walk in clinic. Right away i could tell the people and staff at this clinic really cared about their patients and showed concerned and took proper care of me while in their care. One staff member was supposed to leave at 5pm and she stood over her shift to make sure I was healthy enough to leave on my own even called the next morning to make sure i was doing well something the hospital didn't even do. I highly recommend that if you are looking to go somewhere where you are ill to give this place a shot you will not be disappointed.

Cory was amazing. My only major concern was that I identified that my daughter had a medication allergy and the APRN who saw us prescribed the one she was allergic to (which I picked up at the pharmacy and paid for) and I had to call back and get a different one. If they document allergies, that should not be ignored when prescribing.

Recent COVID-19 Testing Reviews (20)

Went for a Covid test for myself and my 1-year-old. The wait was about an hour which was fine because I expected it. They don’t take appointments, only walk-ins. This is one of the only places in my area that was offering tests for children under 3. The staff were all friendly and helpful. I would go back if needed.

Went in for a rapid Covid test. I had been feeling Sick and wanted to be sure I didn’t have Covid. The check in was quick by a friendly young lady who said I had a wait do to people ahead of me. After waiting about 50 minutes I was called in and taken care of very quickly. Within 20 minutes I was done and in my way home. Everyone was professional and polite.

I arrived earlier than scheduled time, so I had to wait until they were ready inside. I was having a Covid test post travel. Because there was a 20” earlier I thought I might get called in sooner, but I didn’t, so I waited in the car until notified to come in. Staff was friendly, especially the nurse that took my temp and did the actual test. The APRN was very helpful and knowledgeable also. Facility was very clean. I would recommend to others.

I scheduled for Covid testing and had a great experience even after being 40 Minutes late for my appointment. Very friendly staff. Overall great experience and highly recommended!

Required a covid test. Was accommodated quickly and had results within 15 minutes.

I went in for a strep and COVID test and they were incredibly quick and kind. There was no wait when I used Solv to pre-book a time, and the test results were rapid. This is the first urgent care clinic that I’ve been to that has really listened to me. They prescribed antibiotics without doing a culture for strep (I have a history of negative rapid strep tests but positive cultures and it sucks having to be miserable to 2-5 more days to find out I do in fact have strep). Overall they really paid attention to me and my concerns. I didn’t even know this clinic existed but now that I do that’s where I’ll go for all of my urgent care needs!

Excellent process for COVID testing! The staff there is very professional and has GREAT bedside manner! Highly recommend this facility!!

- Verified patient on 12/28

Very comfortable and smooth experience. Easy and friendly to use end to end. The test was clean, easy and I was impressed by the kit design. Overall great experience and I strongly recommend using Wren Laboratories solution for easy fast and reliable Covid test.

I asked the person at the reception desk if I needed to go into the treatment room with my 17 year old son for a COVID test and she said I did not as long as I was in the building. My 17 year old got called and quite a few minutes later the doctor came out insisting I go into the treatment room because he was under 18. I explained that I had already taken that up with the person at the front and he said "Well, Im the doctor they wouldn't know." REALLY? How rude. Does he really think that only doctors can comprehend the rules of a practice and that the staff at the reception desk don't need to know these things? I guess someone needs to tell him that his staff needs to be properly informed on what the rules are so they can respond to patients when they are asked. Finally, After I got in the treatment Room as he instructed me, I explained that I am immuno compromised and that is why I did not want to be in the treatment Room and what did he do? sent me back out to the lobby where I wanted to sit in the 1st place. I think he needs to take a step back look at his arrogant behaviour. This is not the first time I've had an interaction with him like this. The last time I had an appointment for a COVID test I waited over one hour and 15 minutes... I took it up with him because he said he was "in charge" and all he did was make excuses. I told him if you're running over an hour late you should probably let patients know at least... it's a basic common courtesy that most offices recognize. I ended up missing an Important appointment after that should not have been a problem to get to in time. Too bad, because I really like the convenient location of this place, but who wants to go and deal in that jerk?

Wonderful staff - professional- spotless facility and no waiting for a covid test. Thank you

I went for a Covid test. Waited 3 hours. They probably could use more staff due to Covid issues

- Verified patient on 12/17

Everything was great about my experience up until i was given my results of a covid test and the doctor began to berate me with questions about vaccination and why i was against it. As a medical professional, i would expect a bit more professionalism. I came in for a covid test, not a lecture on how my life decisions are wrong in his eyes. Also, why was the doctor trying to perform a physical when that had nothing to do with my appointment? Seems like you have a rogue doctor trying to be a hero on your staff..

- Verified patient on 8/25

Rapid covid test results as promised.

- Verified patient on 8/8

Went in for a rapid Covid test around 5:40 in the evening. There was no line and the receptionist was pleasant and tended to me right away. Was brought back immediately and again was taken care of quickly by the physician. I received the results from a second physician who had a really great bedside manner. Great experience, super easy.

- Verified patient on 8/17

Front desk personnel was friendly and knowledgeable. Wait time was a reasonable amount of time considering the amount of people waiting to be seen. Once called in, both my husband and I were explained what the covid test involved. We both were tested and put in a waiting room. We told our wait time would be approximately 15 minutes. It was longer than time quoted but again it was very busy. The doctor apologized for the added wait time and that it was exceptionally busy. The facility was clean and staff very pleasant. Would definitely return if necessary!!

- Verified patient on 10/8

We went in for rapid Covid tests only. We were symptom free and not sick. There was no differentiation of sick vs. well patients in the waiting room. We would have felt more comfortable waiting in by the car. I actually stepped outside to wait when it was apparent that a sick patient entered the waiting room and 2 other possibly sick patients had been there as well. Once the two others had been called in, the seats where they’d been sitting were not cleaned or sprayed with disinfectant and the new people came in and sat in the same seats. I didn’t feel that Covid protocols were taken considering it is a medical facility that treats possible Covid positive patients and I felt uncomfortable being there. The facility looked clean otherwise and staff was friendly.

- Verified patient on 12/26

The facility was very clean. The staff was very friendly, comforting, and professional. Went for a rapid covid test was there about 45 minutes total, given my results before leaving.

- Verified patient on 10/29

I went for a Rapid Covid test. I was tested twice because after doing one test it was decided I need a more accurate type. I was there about 1 and a 1/2 hours, during which time my daughter was distressed because it should not have taken so long. There were rust stains under the chair legs of the chair I sat in, otherwise the place was immaculate. The check-in staff were kind, professional and efficient. Neither the Dr. or anyone else stopped by to let me know that the process would take more time so I just sat there with nothing to do or read. It was maddening.

- Verified patient on 6/29

I went in, because I had called in sick to work, and was told by my boss that I had to get a Covid test. I came in and was checked in right away. There weren’t too many people there so I was hopeful the whole thing wouldn’t take too long. I checked in at 11:16 AM. I was not called in to get swabbed until about 12:55 PM. I’ve been was told that the test would take 15 minutes. 35 minutes later I was told the results. Everything about the place is great, and the people were very nice and competent, but the wait time was a bit ridiculous.

Middletown COVID Testing & Rapid Testing

Types of COVID Tests

There are two types of coronavirus tests (COVID-19 tests) available, those that can test for a current infection (viral test) and those that can test for a past infection (antibody test).

Viral COVID testing can be done in a few different ways, the most common being nose swabs, but saliva tests are becoming more popular. Some tests are processed out on-site and can provide results in as little as 30 minutes. These are called rapid COVID tests. The majority of tests, on the other hand, are collected at the clinic on-site and then submitted to off-site labs for processing. Results can take up to 2-3 days to arrive.

Antibody testing looks for a past infection and may not reveal if you have an active COVID-19 infection because antibodies can take up to three weeks to form in your body. The presence of COVID antibodies may help to prevent you from becoming infected with the same virus again; but, because the clinical understanding of COVID-19 is still developing, it's unclear how long that protection will continue.

Who should get tested for current infection

The CDC currently defines four instances where COVID testing is recommended:

  1. If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 including fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, or diarrhea.
  2. If you have been in close contact with someone with confirmed COVID-19. Close contact is defined as within 6 feet for a total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period. If you have been vaccinated, or tested positive in the past 3 months and not experiencing symptoms, you do not need to be tested.
  3. If you are unvaccinated and participated in high-risk activities where distancing is not an option. This could include travel, large social or mass gatherings, crowded indoor settings, etc.
  4. If you have been referred to get a COVID test by your healthcare provider or local health department.

How is testing done for COVID-19?

Most COVID tests are collected by a nasal swab. A member of the medical team puts a swab inside your nose for a few seconds on each side to collect the sample. After that, the samples are packaged according to CDC guidelines and tested on-site or transported to a facility for testing. The lab will test samples for the presence of the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), which causes COVID infection and either your care provider or the lab will notify you with the results as soon as they are available.

PCR vs Antigen Testing

Viral COVID tests are available as molecular and antigen tests. The molecular test, also known as a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test, usually delivers results within a few days since most of these tests are sent to offsite labs for analysis. The average turnaround time for PCR test results is 48 hours, but in some instances may be significantly longer due to backlogs related to insufficient lab volume and capacity. Antigen tests are also known as rapid tests and have an average turnaround time of between 15 to 30 minutes.

Both PCR and rapid COVID tests can be used to test people exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, those who were close contacts to COVID-19, and those without COVID-19 symptoms who live or work in a high-risk setting (such as a nursing facility); or those individuals who are identified as part of outbreak detection and response. The rapid COVID test is also recommended for the screening of residents or healthcare workers at skilled nursing facilities along with a PCR confirmation, and for repeat screening for the early detection and prevention of outbreaks in congregate settings (such as schools, workplaces, and prisons).

COVID testing is available for free under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which includes testing for those without health insurance. To reduce the risk of facing extra costs related to COVID testing, ask your primary care doctor to recommend a free COVID test site, and confirm there are no charges or fees for the test that are not covered by your insurance plan. Additionally, avoid getting a COVID test at a hospital or free-standing emergency room, as these facilities may charge fees for COVID testing and related services.

COVID-19 Testing FAQs

  • How much does COVID testing cost in Middletown?

In many cases, COVID testing can be free. Many state and local health departments continue to offer free testing to community residents as part of their response to the pandemic. In other cases, commercially insured patients, or those on Medicare or Medicaid, may receive testing at no out of pocket cost, or with a nominal office visit copay. For cash paying patients, or those that need rapid COVID testing which will deliver results in under an hour, COVID tests can range from $50 to $150 each. It is best to call your healthcare provider prior to getting tested to better understand the cost of the specific test you require.

  • Where can I get free COVID testing in Middletown?

COVID testing is available for free under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which includes testing for those without health insurance. Check with your Middletown-area health department as they are generally a good source for free COVID tests, or can at least point you in the right direction. Additionally, you can ask your primary care provider to recommend a free COVID test site.

  • Where can I get COVID testing in Middletown?

COVID testing is available at many outlets near Middletown including urgent care centers, retail clinics, primary care offices, health departments, and more. Different venues will have different types of tests available, many at different price points. Some testing sites are allowing walk-in patients, however, many are still requiring some degree of advance booking to control patient volume.

  • Where can I get a rapid COVID test in Middletown?

Rapid testing—both PCR (molecular) and antigen tests—is offered through many Middletown-area urgent care centers and physician offices, usually at an additional cost ranging from $50 up to $150 per test. Usually this will allow you to get results back in under an hour, and require advanced booking through the provider. However, if you can wait 24 hours for your results, many labs are turning around send-out lab tests in that time frame, which could save you some money.

  • How to make an appointment for COVID testing in Middletown?

Same-day and next day appointments for COVID testing in Middletown are bookable directly through Solv. Simply browse the list of healthcare providers conducting COVID tests above, find one with a “Book Online” button, and book a time that aligns with your schedule stating “COVID-19 Test” as your reason for visit.

  • Can I get tested for antibodies if I am sick with COVID-19 Middletown?

An antibody test for COVID-19 might inform you if you previously had a coronavirus infection. Because it can take between 1–3 weeks after an infection for your body to develop these antibodies, an antibody test during an active infection would not be successful. To see if you are currently infected, you need a viral test.

  • Do I need a COVID test if I have been vaccinated?

Even if you have been fully vaccinated, if you have been exposed to someone who has COVID-19, experts believe that you should be tested yourself, particularly if you are experiencing cold and flu symptoms commonly aligned with the coronavirus.

  • How long does COVID testing take?

Getting a COVID test is quick. Most tests are done with a nasal swab, which takes less than a minute to swab both nostrils. Depending on where you get your COVID test, this means you could be in and out of the testing site in as little as 10-15 minutes. During busy times—particularly around holidays—testing sites may be busier than usual and wait times may be longer.

  • How long does it take to get COVID test results in Middletown?

Most labs are returning send-out molecular (PCR) COVID test results within 24-48 hours of the test. Some sites take longer, so call and ask if the reason for the test is proof for travel. Rapid COVID tests are processed on-site and are able to deliver results in under an hour, sometimes in as little as 15 min.

  • Do COVID tests detect the Delta variant and Omicron variant?

Regular COVID tests are able to detect both the Delta variant and Omicron variant in that they can determine whether or not you have the coronavirus. However, they can't tell which variation is involved. That would necessitate genomic sequencing, which is a different process from regular virus testing that not all labs can undertake. Sequencing is uncommon and can cost up to $100 per test. Since the treatment is the same for any variant, it is not clinically useful to an individual patient to know whether the infection was caused by a variant or not.
