I went to the lab for bloodwork. They were busy, but worked efficiently, and got me in and out in a timely matter. The staff was very friendly, and the facility was very clean. About a week before, I took my son with disabilities for bloodwork, and was very impressed They treated him with dignity and respect.

I banged my knee cap hard after slipping hiking on some jagged rocks. To make maters worse, I had to be at a wedding immediately. The doctor stitched me up and was friendly. I showed up bloody in swimming trunks and a t shirt. After the stitches I changed in their bathroom and left in a suit and tie!! Too funny. I greatly appreciated them getting this done especially on a Sunday.

My visit was for blood work, so some of this questions like bedside manner do not apply. The staff here are always friendly, professional, and efficient.

Lisa was great. She greeted me and got me all set up within two minutes. The needle was painless. She took three tubes of blood, bandaged my arm and I was out the door in less than five minutes. The folks at CompuNet Clinical Laboratories have their act together.

I’m known for passing out when giving blood but the ladies that were there on 10-29 were GREAT! They kept having conversations with me to make sure I didn’t! and they were as fast as can be!

My nurse practitioners visit seemed uncaring, vague, and quick. I went in for symptoms of low blood sugar and symptoms of possible anemia. According to the medical student my blood sugar test suggested my level was a little low but nothing serious. When my doctor came in she said my sugar levels were great along with my blood pressure. ( it was actually high considering my normal rarely goes above 110 and my diastolic is always lower than 90) When I asked her to check my hemoglobin levels she told me to go to my primary care doctor. I waited a very long time for discharge paperwork especially considering nothing was wrong with me. They forgot I was in there and didn’t know they haven’t given me my paperwork.

About Blood Tests

Blood tests are used as valuable snapshots of your current overall health and can be an effective way of catching illness or disease early, or measuring how you are reacting to new or on-going treatment. There are a variety of types of blood work with most common tests being complete blood counts (CBC), complete and basic metabolic panels (CMP, BMP), thyroid panels, nutrient tests, and sexually transmitted disease (STD) tests.

Each of these blood tests are fairly common and can be performed in a variety of settings including testing labs, primary care offices, urgent care centers, and even retail clinics and some pharmacies. Solv even has clinic partners in the Corning-area that offer online scheduling, allowing you to book a visit convenient to your schedule and skip the wait. The tests themselves take only a few minutes and usually are performed by a nurse or technician where they:

  1. Clean the area where they will draw blood from, usually your upper arm
  2. Tie a band to your upper arm to make your veins more visible
  3. Put a needle gently into a vein to draw blood into the attached tube
  4. Remove the needle, then the band from the vein when complete
  5. Cover the draw site with a bandage

Risks associated with blood work are very low, but could possibly include slight pain or discomfort at the draw site, dizziness or even fainting from blood loss, or vein puncture. It’s important to discuss any concerns you may have with your medical provider before the procedure begins.

They offer a great way to catch illness or disease early on, or see how you are progressing with on-going treatment. Your doctor or healthcare provider typically orders blood tests for you during an annual physical or as necessary for a specific diagnosis. It’s possible to order your own blood tests without a doctor, particularly for things like STD tests or hemoglobin A1c tests.

The collection itself should only take a few minutes, and the results could be ready within a few hours or up to one to two weeks depending on the test you are getting done. Once you’ve received your results, your doctor can discuss them with you either in-person, on the phone, or through a video visit.

  • Is blood work covered by my insurance?

Most common blood tests are covered under insurance plans, particularly when your doctor orders them as part of an annual physical or supporting a diagnosis. If you are self prescribing the test, however, it may not be covered by insurance. If you have questions about your specific insurance coverage, it is best to contact your carrier or your provider.
