Albertville Chlamydia Testing

Who should get tested for chlamydia?

According to the CDC, anyone who is sexually active can get chlamydia, but the infection is more common in some groups. Women under 25 or older women with risk factors such as new or multiple sex partners, or a sex partner who has a sexually transmitted infection, should be tested for chlamydia every year. Men who have sex with men should also be tested annually for chlamydia and other STDs/STIs.

Importance of getting tested

Getting tested for chlamydia is crucial as it often has no symptoms, making it easy to spread unknowingly. If left untreated, it can lead to serious health problems like pelvic inflammatory disease in women, which can cause permanent damage to the reproductive system and lead to long-term pelvic pain, inability to get pregnant, or potentially deadly ectopic pregnancy. In men, chlamydia can cause a condition called nongonococcal urethritis (NGU) - an infection of the urethra.
