French Valley Chlamydia Testing

Who should get tested for chlamydia?

Chlamydia is a common sexually transmitted disease (STD) that can infect both men and women. It is most prevalent among young people, particularly those aged 15 to 24 years. According to the CDC, sexually active women under the age of 25, as well as older women with risk factors such as new or multiple sex partners, should get tested for chlamydia annually. Men who have sex with men should also be tested annually, and more frequently if they have multiple or anonymous partners.

Importance of getting tested

Getting tested for chlamydia is crucial as it often has no symptoms, and if left untreated, it can lead to serious health problems such as pelvic inflammatory disease in women and epididymitis in men, both of which can cause infertility. Moreover, chlamydia can increase the risk of contracting other STDs, including HIV. Early detection through testing allows for prompt treatment, which is typically a course of antibiotics.
