Woman at the front desk yelled at me to speak up because she couldn't hear me and repeatedly shouted at me for my name instead of asking and later had to be berated by another member of staff to stop shouting. Everyone else was lovely but some manners could be implemented for some staff

Staff were friendly. I was there a long time despite only one person ahead of me. Spent about 45 minutes in waiting room. Once I was in a room, provider was in within 2 minutes. But then took another 30-45 mins for them to prep the shots. Overall, I think it’s faster than it has been previously.

I’ve had a cough for about 6 weeks. Decided today I’d had enough. Went to AFC Montclair.  The receptionist was as very friendly and sign in was relatively easy. Not much of a wait time. Triage nurse was friendly and got vitals quickly. Didn’t wait long at all when nurse practitioner came in. She ordered the necessary tests and they were done timely and the technician/nurses was very friendly. Had to wait just a little bit for tests results but not too long. Nurse practitioner came in and told me the results and ordered meds. Before I left, pharmacy notified me they received the med orders. I’ve us s this AFC for a long time and i will continue to do so.

Calera HIV Testing

Who should get tested for HIVs?

According to the CDC, everyone between the ages of 13 and 64 should get tested for HIV at least once as part of routine health care. However, some people are at higher risk and should get tested more often. These include those who have had unprotected sex, have multiple sexual partners, have ever injected drugs, or have been diagnosed with or sought treatment for another sexually transmitted disease.

Importance of getting tested

Getting tested for HIV is crucial for several reasons. Firstly, it helps individuals know their status, enabling them to take steps to protect their own health and that of others. Secondly, early detection of HIV can lead to early treatment, which can significantly improve long-term health outcomes. Lastly, it can help reduce the spread of HIV in the community.

HIV testing options in Calera, AL:

Urgent care and walk-in clinics

Urgent care centers such as Urgent Care for Children in Birmingham, AL, offer HIV testing services. These facilities are a good option for those seeking immediate results. You can book same-day and next-day testing appointments through Solv’s website and mobile app.

Primary care providers

Primary care providers can also conduct HIV testing. If you have a regular doctor, they can add an HIV test during your routine check-up.

Free STD testing and community health centers

Community health centers often provide free or low-cost HIV testing. These centers are usually funded by the government and aim to provide healthcare services to all, regardless of their ability to pay.

At-home testing

At-home HIV testing kits are also available. These kits allow individuals to collect a sample, usually a mouth swab, at home and then send it to a laboratory for testing.

Prevalence of HIVs in Calera

While specific data for Calera is not readily available, Shelby County, where Calera is located, has seen a steady increase in HIV cases over the past decade. This trend aligns with the overall increase in HIV cases in Alabama and across the United States.

Risk factors related to HIVs in Calera

Risk factors for HIV in Calera are similar to those in other parts of the country. These include unprotected sex, multiple sexual partners, and drug use. Other factors such as lack of awareness about HIV and limited access to healthcare services can also contribute to the spread of the virus.

Other STDs in Calera

In addition to HIV, other sexually transmitted diseases such as gonorrhea, chlamydia, and syphilis are prevalent in Calera. These STDs often co-occur with HIV, making regular testing for all STDs important for those at risk.

HIV Test FAQs

  • Who should get an HIV test?

Everyone between the ages of 13 and 64 should take an HIV test at least once in their lives. Some people are more likely to get HIV and should be tested more regularly. Those who have had sex with an HIV-positive partner, those who inject drugs, sexually active gay men, and those who have unprotected sex are all included. You should get checked every 6-12 months if you have any of these risk factors.

  • How do they test for HIV?

Antibodies created by your body in reaction to the virus are examined in HIV tests. A blood test or a sample of cells obtained from the inside of the cheek can be used to do this. After that, the sample is transported to a lab, where a technician will look for antibodies.

  • How long should I wait to get an HIV test?

It can take a long time for your body to build enough antibodies for an HIV test to detect the illness if you become sick. It may take 3-12 weeks for your blood to contain adequate antibodies. Even if you have HIV, you could have a negative test result during this time.

  • How long will I have to wait for HIV test results in Calera?

Because the sample must be sent to a laboratory for investigation, most HIV test results might take anywhere from a few days to several weeks. On the other hand, some Calera clinics or doctor's offices may offer rapid HIV testing, which can deliver a diagnosis in as little as 20 minutes. Rapid HIV testing involve a little sample of blood or fluid obtained from the mouth. You'll need a follow-up blood test to confirm the diagnosis if a fast test comes up positive.

  • How much does an HIV test cost?

A variety of factors influence the cost of an HIV test, including the type of test you receive, the location where you are tested, and whether or not you have health insurance. HIV testing may be provided for free or at a low cost by some clinics or health authorities. If you're a college student, you might be able to get free HIV tests through your school.

  • Is HIV testing covered by my insurance?

The majority of insurance coverage cover HIV testing. The Affordable Care Act mandates that all new health plans provide free HIV testing for those aged 15 to 65. If you have any doubts about what is covered under your individual health plan, you can always call your insurance company or go to their website.

  • Where can I get an HIV test in Calera?

Many Calera health clinics, doctor's offices, and the health department offer HIV testing. Some pharmacies with on-site clinics may also be able to give HIV testing. Even though some clinics accept walk-in appointments, making an appointment ahead of time will save you time and ensure that you receive your test on the same day.

  • Can I get a same-day appointment for HIV testing?

Yes, Solv offers same-day and next-day HIV testing appointments. We collaborate with thousands of healthcare providers across the country to make it easier for everyone to access the medical assistance they require quickly and conveniently. On our website, you can choose a physician near you and make an appointment right now.

Fill out the form to arrange an appointment at a time and location that is convenient for you. Make certain that your appointment is for "HIV testing."

  • Can I test myself for HIV at home?

Although there are several home HIV tests available, not all of them are accurate or FDA-approved. For a home test, you'll need a swab from the inside of your mouth or a blood sample taken with a finger pricker. If you get a positive result on a home HIV test, you should see a doctor to confirm the diagnosis and start treatment.
