Getting Tested for STDs in Cambridge, OH

Who should get tested for STDs?

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), anyone who is sexually active should consider regular STD testing as part of their routine healthcare. This is particularly important for individuals who have multiple sexual partners, engage in unprotected sex, or use intravenous drugs. It's also crucial for those who have been diagnosed with an STD in the past, as they are at a higher risk of contracting another. Pregnant women should also get tested for STDs to prevent potential health complications for themselves and their babies.

Importance of getting tested

Getting tested for STDs is a crucial step in maintaining one's overall health. Undiagnosed and untreated STDs can lead to serious health complications, including infertility, cancer, and organ damage. Regular testing can help detect infections early, even before symptoms appear, allowing for prompt treatment and reducing the risk of long-term health problems. It also helps prevent the spread of STDs to others.

As per the CDC, STD rates vary across different regions. In Guernsey County, where Cambridge is located, STD rates are generally in line with the national average. However, like the rest of the country, Cambridge has seen a rise in certain STDs over the past few years.

Risk factors related to STDs in Cambridge

These include a lack of comprehensive sex education, limited access to healthcare services, social stigma associated with STD testing, and high rates of drug use.
