Had been feeling bad since Friday night. Felt as though I had a sinus infection. Went on Tuesday and was advised I tested positive for Covid. I was surprised that I was not given anything to treat for Covid. I was given a cough suppressant. Still feeling bad today..

My baby was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection and given a nebulizer. I didn’t like the way his breathing sounded but he didn’t seem bothered so rather than wait in a sick baby filled ER we came here and they got us in right away. Listened to his lungs, checked his vitals, gave me some advice on how to help him and most importantly gave me peace of mind. My baby boy loves the doctors there and I can’t recommend this place enough!!

I was in and out in no time. It’s a fairly new facility. The family nurse practitioner, Emelda, was wonderful. Great bedside manner. Offered options for treatment that she explained very well as to the pros and cons of each. If you live or work in the neighborhood, this is the place to go.

Getting Tested for STDs in Dumfries, VA

Who should get tested for STDs?

Anyone who is sexually active should consider getting tested for sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). This is particularly important for those who have multiple sexual partners, are not consistently using protection, or are experiencing symptoms of an STD. However, it's crucial to note that many STDs can be asymptomatic, meaning they show no symptoms. Therefore, regular testing is recommended even if you feel fine. According to the CDC, certain groups, such as sexually active women under 25, men who have sex with men, and individuals with HIV should get tested more frequently.

Importance of getting tested

Getting tested for STDs is a crucial part of maintaining your health. Early detection and treatment can prevent many of the serious long-term health consequences associated with STDs, such as infertility, certain types of cancer, and increased susceptibility to HIV. Regular testing also helps to prevent the spread of these diseases, protecting both you and your sexual partners.

Community health centers often offer free or low-cost STD testing. While these centers may not be as immediate as urgent care or primary care providers, they provide an important service for those who may not have insurance or who cannot afford testing otherwise.

At-home testing

At-home testing kits are another option for STD testing. These kits can be ordered online, used at home, and then sent back to a lab for analysis. They offer a convenient and private way to get tested.

Risk factors related to STDs in Dumfries

It's important to note that anyone who is sexually active can get an STD, regardless of their age, race, or socioeconomic status. However, certain groups, such as young people, men who have sex with men, and people of color, are disproportionately affected by STDs.
