I will say, time and time again, this is my go to place for any kind of testing. I never have to wait, I usually schedule a day or two before and am often seen early due to no one being there. Staff and providers are super friendly, helpful, and extremely quick with what they need to do which allows for less time waiting in the exam rooms. Testing is also extremely fast, I have gotten tests before and then have heard back a day later. Will recommend to anyone looking for quick access to medical care.

I have been to this facility a few times when I have had to take my child in times when her Pediatrician was away. They have taken care of her and even given me a referral so that I may take her to a specialist to further evaluate her. It's not very far from my home at all. I'm glad they are also available after my child gets out of school, since her pediatrican's last appt. is at 3:30, I have time to go to Metro-UrgiCare and feel reassured.

About Syphilis Testing

Who should get tested for syphilis?

According to the CDC, anyone who is sexually active is at risk for contracting syphilis, but certain individuals are at a higher risk. These include men who have sex with men, individuals with multiple sexual partners, and those who engage in unprotected sex. Pregnant women are also recommended to get tested for syphilis, as it can be passed on to the unborn child, leading to severe health complications.

Importance of getting tested

Getting tested for syphilis is crucial as the infection often shows no symptoms in its early stages but can lead to serious health problems if left untreated. These complications can include damage to the heart, brain, and other organs. Testing is the only sure way to know if you have syphilis. Early detection and treatment can prevent these complications and stop the spread of the disease to others.

Syphilis testing options in River Edge, NJ:

Urgent care and walk-in clinics

Urgent care centers like LevelUp MD Urgent Care in nearby Oradell offer confidential and quick syphilis testing. These centers often have shorter wait times than traditional clinics and you can book same-day and next-day testing appointments through Solv’s website and mobile app.

Primary care providers

Your primary care provider can also conduct a syphilis test. If you're already scheduled for a routine check-up, it's a convenient time to request a test.

Free STD testing and community health centers

Community health centers often provide free or low-cost syphilis testing. These centers are a valuable resource, particularly for those without insurance or with limited financial means.

At-home testing

At-home testing kits are another option for syphilis testing. These kits are sent directly to your home, allowing you to take the test at your convenience and in private.

Prevalence of syphilis in River Edge

Syphilis prevalence in River Edge, located in Bergen County, varies over time. Comparatively, the rates are lower than the national average, but higher than some nearby counties like Hampshire and Franklin County. It's important to note that these numbers can fluctuate and may not reflect recent changes in infection rates.

Risk factors related to syphilis in River Edge

Risk factors for syphilis in River Edge are similar to those nationwide. These include unprotected sex, multiple sexual partners, and men who have sex with men. Additionally, individuals who have been previously diagnosed with other STDs are at a higher risk.

Other STDs in River Edge

Syphilis is not the only STD of concern in River Edge. Other prevalent STDs include gonorrhea, chlamydia, HIV, and hepatitis. Like syphilis, these diseases often show no symptoms in their early stages, making regular testing crucial for those at risk. You can find testing for these STDs at the same locations as syphilis testing.
