I have brought my child to this location several times over the years for after hours care and all the staff have always been very professional and courteous. It has been such a relief as a parent to have prompt care when a child is ill and they have always taken good care of us. I would recommend this location for care.

I appreciate that I was able to walk in without an appointment.   However, I don’t feel Juan took any real time to hear me out.  He talks rushed, behaved rushed, and have his explanation rushed.  You don’t get to help a patient if you don’t actually listen to the patient.  I was told I have an abnormal ekg reading along with some concerning symptoms I’ve had and then told I have nothing to worry about. To me it seems like he was eager to go sit back at his desk.  With a clinic as empty as this one, I don’t see what the rush was about.

I went in with what I assumed was ear and sinus infections. The staff was very kind and friendly. Without scheduling an appointment, my wait time was maybe 5-10 minutes after completion of paperwork and I was seen shortly after going to the exam room. The PA/NP was kind, friendly and thorough and had me on my way quickly with prescriptions sent to the pharmacy immediately.

I was hesitant in the beginning because I assumed I’d be rushed and not heard. I was quite surprised, the virtual visit was my first and I must admit that the physician’s and bedside manner was even better than any office visit I’ve had in years. And the phone representative went above and beyond to help me correct my payment error. C  The staff at the facility was just as professional caring and friendly.

My son has been seen several times at other urgent cares in the valley for nasty cough that's lasted over 4 weeks and I was dismissed each time. The NP that worked with us tonight listened carefully, took care of my baby, and got him the treatment he needed. I am very thankful for her!

I went to have my ears syringed as I’ve just had my hearing aids cleaned, and my audiologist recommended the procedure. Brian has syringed my ears before and does an excellent job.

I got sent home from work! Went straight to urgent care and boy did I have a good time! Laughed with the chic at the counter! Then my nurse was sooooo sweat polite... Friendly attentive! Then... doctor Dan!! Super cute and sweet.. He looked out for my heart issues and made sure I got meds that weren't going to give me anxiety because sometimes I feel like the heart medication gives me anxiety! Thank you to everyone!! Heck yeah I'd recommend this location!!

Although they were very professional. They only did a urine test for my side pain. The next day, I went to a different company and they did the urine test also, but they also did an xray.  Come to find out, I have some fluid in my lung that was causing the issue. They prescribed 2 medications and an inhaler and now I am doing much better.

I had frostbite on my finger from 30 years ago every so often it opens up and bleeds. I put a bandage on it and the bandages kept slipping off so I put tape around it and I put it too tight bandage every two days but it wasn’t getting any better, so I came to urgent care and they took care of it. Great job.

Everything was great except had wait 1.5 hours to get Covid test

- Verified patient on 8/19

This was the only facility that was able to take walk-ins. I was able to do the rapid COVID test as well. I highly recommend them.

- Verified patient on 12/26

The staff was wonderful and friendly. I was trying to schedule a Covid test, and I was having no luck anywhere and was unable to speak to a live person. A very nice gentleman answered the phone right away and told me he would schedule my appointment and I was able to get one for 1 1/2 hours later. There was also a physician there who gave me a physical. What a great experience. So glad I called them!

- Verified patient on 1/16

I was taken care of right at my appointment time. In & out in just a few minutes. In the past at other covid testing spots I have waited up to an hour beyond my appointment time to be seen.

Came in for a COVID test prior to surgery. Everyone I interacted with was professional and courteous. Whole process was easy and quick

- Verified patient on 1/25

Quick appointment time. Caring staff Thank you NextCare for always delivering a thoughtful response and remedy. Got my COVID test done ASAP.

- Verified patient on 7/18

I arrived for a Covid test for my upcoming trip and was helped more than i expected. A staff member even researched the newest flight restrictions for Hawaii to help me and make sure I received the proper test. Both women were kind and greenfly which made the experience even better.

- Verified patient on 11/4

I made the appt, 25 miles from my house, specifically because I was told this location was doing the rapid Covid tests. Checked in and 30 minutes later heard one of the receptionists tell another patient that they were out of rapid tests. I was never told by staff by phone or even in person that they no longer had rapid tests. Had I been told, I could've saved the drive and my urgent care co-pay as I was simply needing the rapid test to get back to work......and also because I live with my 88 year old mother-in-law. Disappointing to have wasted 2.5 hours of my day for the standard test I could've done .5 miles from home. However, the medical staff was very friendly and helpful.

- Verified patient on 12/16

The in office experience was superb. Unfortunately, one of our covid tests came back positive. We secured another test 3 hours later, from a different lab which returned a negative result. Our problem solved but with anxiety. False positive? How does a paying customer reconcile this?

- Verified patient on 11/13

We arrived first thing in the morning on a Sunday morning to get my son’s physical. Timing was perfect. We didn’t wait longer than 15 minutes before seeing a provider and were out within 45. Anyone who was there for Covid testing was directed immediately to wait in their cars. It looks like they’re following all the right protocols.

- Verified patient on 7/5

Took my son in for a rapid Covid test. When it came back negative they did a strep throat test next and a flu test. He has a cold. Wait time was long, but understandable with Covid. Doctor and staff were very friendly and very helpful. The wait was about an hour past our scheduled appointment that we made online. We we not charged at the time of the visit.

- Verified patient on 8/27

Went for a COVID test. Even though they were quite busy, they were very courteous and professional. I would recommend them for anyone requiring urgent care.

- Verified patient on 11/30

Fantastic clinic if you need a covid test. The staff is friendly, punctual, and extremely helpful. The clinic was clean and comfortable. I would highly recommend this clinic to anyone needing a covid test.

- Verified patient on 11/12

My opinion is that patients with TRUE Urgent care NEEDS to be seen prior to any an all Covid testing; no matter if they have an appointment or not I had to wait for 5 Covid testing appointments prior to them seeing me I was DX with pnuemonia.

- Verified patient on 11/6

You never leave your car!............I went and had the rapid COVID test done. I called when I got there and spoke with a rep and she collected all my info over the phone. I did have to email a picture of my ID and Insurance Card from my phone. She had me checked in within a few minutes. I waited for about an hour (but I did not have an appointment and there was a number of people in front of me). When the nurse came to the car we did everything through my window. The nurse was nice and informative. The whole thing took about 5 mins. You can wait or they can call you with the results.

Scottsdale COVID Testing & Rapid Testing

Types of COVID Tests

There are two types of coronavirus tests (COVID-19 tests) available, those that can test for a current infection (viral test) and those that can test for a past infection (antibody test).

Viral COVID testing can be done in a few different ways, the most common being nose swabs, but saliva tests are becoming more popular. Some tests are processed out on-site and can provide results in as little as 30 minutes. These are called rapid COVID tests. The majority of tests, on the other hand, are collected at the clinic on-site and then submitted to off-site labs for processing. Results can take up to 2-3 days to arrive.

Antibody testing looks for a past infection and may not reveal if you have an active COVID-19 infection because antibodies can take up to three weeks to form in your body. The presence of COVID antibodies may help to prevent you from becoming infected with the same virus again; but, because the clinical understanding of COVID-19 is still developing, it's unclear how long that protection will continue.

Who should get tested for current infection

The CDC currently defines four instances where COVID testing is recommended:

  1. If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 including fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, or diarrhea.
  2. If you have been in close contact with someone with confirmed COVID-19. Close contact is defined as within 6 feet for a total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period. If you have been vaccinated, or tested positive in the past 3 months and not experiencing symptoms, you do not need to be tested.
  3. If you are unvaccinated and participated in high-risk activities where distancing is not an option. This could include travel, large social or mass gatherings, crowded indoor settings, etc.
  4. If you have been referred to get a COVID test by your healthcare provider or local health department.

How is testing done for COVID-19?

Most COVID tests are collected by a nasal swab. A member of the medical team puts a swab inside your nose for a few seconds on each side to collect the sample. After that, the samples are packaged according to CDC guidelines and tested on-site or transported to a facility for testing. The lab will test samples for the presence of the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), which causes COVID infection and either your care provider or the lab will notify you with the results as soon as they are available.

PCR vs Antigen Testing

Viral COVID tests are available as molecular and antigen tests. The molecular test, also known as a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test, usually delivers results within a few days since most of these tests are sent to offsite labs for analysis. The average turnaround time for PCR test results is 48 hours, but in some instances may be significantly longer due to backlogs related to insufficient lab volume and capacity. Antigen tests are also known as rapid tests and have an average turnaround time of between 15 to 30 minutes.

Both PCR and rapid COVID tests can be used to test people exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, those who were close contacts to COVID-19, and those without COVID-19 symptoms who live or work in a high-risk setting (such as a nursing facility); or those individuals who are identified as part of outbreak detection and response. The rapid COVID test is also recommended for the screening of residents or healthcare workers at skilled nursing facilities along with a PCR confirmation, and for repeat screening for the early detection and prevention of outbreaks in congregate settings (such as schools, workplaces, and prisons).

COVID testing is available for free under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which includes testing for those without health insurance. To reduce the risk of facing extra costs related to COVID testing, ask your primary care doctor to recommend a free COVID test site, and confirm there are no charges or fees for the test that are not covered by your insurance plan. Additionally, avoid getting a COVID test at a hospital or free-standing emergency room, as these facilities may charge fees for COVID testing and related services.

COVID-19 Testing FAQs

  • How much does COVID testing cost in Scottsdale?

In many cases, COVID testing can be free. Many state and local health departments continue to offer free testing to community residents as part of their response to the pandemic. In other cases, commercially insured patients, or those on Medicare or Medicaid, may receive testing at no out of pocket cost, or with a nominal office visit copay. For cash paying patients, or those that need rapid COVID testing which will deliver results in under an hour, COVID tests can range from $50 to $150 each. It is best to call your healthcare provider prior to getting tested to better understand the cost of the specific test you require.

  • Where can I get free COVID testing in Scottsdale?

COVID testing is available for free under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which includes testing for those without health insurance. Check with your Scottsdale-area health department as they are generally a good source for free COVID tests, or can at least point you in the right direction. Additionally, you can ask your primary care provider to recommend a free COVID test site.

  • Where can I get COVID testing in Scottsdale?

COVID testing is available at many outlets near Scottsdale including urgent care centers, retail clinics, primary care offices, health departments, and more. Different venues will have different types of tests available, many at different price points. Some testing sites are allowing walk-in patients, however, many are still requiring some degree of advance booking to control patient volume.

  • Where can I get a rapid COVID test in Scottsdale?

Rapid testing—both PCR (molecular) and antigen tests—is offered through many Scottsdale-area urgent care centers and physician offices, usually at an additional cost ranging from $50 up to $150 per test. Usually this will allow you to get results back in under an hour, and require advanced booking through the provider. However, if you can wait 24 hours for your results, many labs are turning around send-out lab tests in that time frame, which could save you some money.

  • How to make an appointment for COVID testing in Scottsdale?

Same-day and next day appointments for COVID testing in Scottsdale are bookable directly through Solv. Simply browse the list of healthcare providers conducting COVID tests above, find one with a “Book Online” button, and book a time that aligns with your schedule stating “COVID-19 Test” as your reason for visit.

  • Can I get tested for antibodies if I am sick with COVID-19 Scottsdale?

An antibody test for COVID-19 might inform you if you previously had a coronavirus infection. Because it can take between 1–3 weeks after an infection for your body to develop these antibodies, an antibody test during an active infection would not be successful. To see if you are currently infected, you need a viral test.

  • Do I need a COVID test if I have been vaccinated?

Even if you have been fully vaccinated, if you have been exposed to someone who has COVID-19, experts believe that you should be tested yourself, particularly if you are experiencing cold and flu symptoms commonly aligned with the coronavirus.

  • How long does COVID testing take?

Getting a COVID test is quick. Most tests are done with a nasal swab, which takes less than a minute to swab both nostrils. Depending on where you get your COVID test, this means you could be in and out of the testing site in as little as 10-15 minutes. During busy times—particularly around holidays—testing sites may be busier than usual and wait times may be longer.

  • How long does it take to get COVID test results in Scottsdale?

Most labs are returning send-out molecular (PCR) COVID test results within 24-48 hours of the test. Some sites take longer, so call and ask if the reason for the test is proof for travel. Rapid COVID tests are processed on-site and are able to deliver results in under an hour, sometimes in as little as 15 min.

  • Do COVID tests detect the Delta variant and Omicron variant?

Regular COVID tests are able to detect both the Delta variant and Omicron variant in that they can determine whether or not you have the coronavirus. However, they can't tell which variation is involved. That would necessitate genomic sequencing, which is a different process from regular virus testing that not all labs can undertake. Sequencing is uncommon and can cost up to $100 per test. Since the treatment is the same for any variant, it is not clinically useful to an individual patient to know whether the infection was caused by a variant or not.
