Well, to be honest I was a bit disappointed. I went online to search for a "podiatrist" for a same day, or next day appointment. Using my zip code, I searched for locations in which to see a podiatrist the same day...... Your location, which is just within three or four blocks from my home, came up. Bottom line is, I anticipated, and expected to see a board certified podiatrist... A doctor who "specializes in foot care!"

I have been to this facility a few times when I have had to take my child in times when her Pediatrician was away. They have taken care of her and even given me a referral so that I may take her to a specialist to further evaluate her. It's not very far from my home at all. I'm glad they are also available after my child gets out of school, since her pediatrican's last appt. is at 3:30, I have time to go to Metro-UrgiCare and feel reassured.

My visit required a follow up later in the afternoon, which was botched up at each step. Different prescriptions were supposed to be sent to the pharmacy that never came over and by the time they did come over the pharmacy closed hours later. Then the prescription that was resent was the same one as earlier in the day and the insurance company refused to cover it obviously. Communication and follow through was horrible.

Yonkers HIV Testing

Who should get tested for HIV?

According to the CDC, everyone between the ages of 13 and 64 should get tested for HIV at least once as part of routine health care. Those at higher risk should get tested more often. This includes people who have had sex with an HIV-positive partner, people who inject drugs, and men who have sex with men. If you're sexually active, it's important to get tested regularly, even if you don't have any symptoms.

Importance of getting tested

Getting tested for HIV is crucial because it allows for early detection and treatment. According to the Mayo Clinic, starting treatment as soon as possible after diagnosis can help people with HIV live long and healthy lives. It also reduces the risk of transmitting the virus to others. In Yonkers, NY, and across the country, getting tested is a key part of preventing the spread of HIV.

HIV testing options in Yonkers, NY:

Urgent care and walk-in clinics

Urgent care and walk-in clinics provide quick and convenient HIV testing services. For instance, Next Generation Pediatric Urgent Care in nearby Bergenfield, NJ, and PhysicianOne Urgent Care in Mamaroneck, NY, both offer HIV testing. You can book same-day and next-day testing appointments at these locations through Solv’s website and mobile app.

Primary care providers

Primary care providers are another good option for HIV testing. They can provide ongoing care and support if you test positive for the virus.

Free STD testing and community health centers

There are also free STD testing and community health centers in and around Yonkers that provide HIV testing. These centers are a valuable resource, especially for those without insurance.

At-home testing

At-home HIV testing kits are available for those who prefer privacy. These kits can be ordered online and used at home, with results available in minutes.

Prevalence of HIV in Yonkers

According to the CDC, the prevalence of HIV in Yonkers is lower than the national average but higher than some nearby counties like Hampshire and Worcester. However, it's important to note that HIV rates can vary widely from one area to another and can be influenced by a variety of factors, including access to testing and treatment services.

Risk factors related to HIV in Yonkers

Risk factors for HIV in Yonkers are similar to those in other parts of the country. These include unprotected sex, sharing needles for drug use, and having another sexually transmitted infection. Certain populations, such as men who have sex with men and people of color, are also at higher risk.

Other STDs in Yonkers

In addition to HIV, other STDs such as gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis, and hepatitis are also prevalent in Yonkers. As with HIV, regular testing is crucial for detecting and treating these infections. You can get tested for these STDs at the same locations where you can get tested for HIV, including urgent care centers, primary care providers, and community health centers.

HIV Test FAQs

  • Who should get an HIV test?

Everyone between the ages of 13 and 64 should take an HIV test at least once in their lives. Some people are more likely to get HIV and should be tested more regularly. Those who have had sex with an HIV-positive partner, those who inject drugs, sexually active gay men, and those who have unprotected sex are all included. You should get checked every 6-12 months if you have any of these risk factors.

  • How do they test for HIV?

Antibodies created by your body in reaction to the virus are examined in HIV tests. A blood test or a sample of cells obtained from the inside of the cheek can be used to do this. After that, the sample is transported to a lab, where a technician will look for antibodies.

  • How long should I wait to get an HIV test?

It can take a long time for your body to build enough antibodies for an HIV test to detect the illness if you become sick. It may take 3-12 weeks for your blood to contain adequate antibodies. Even if you have HIV, you could have a negative test result during this time.

  • How long will I have to wait for HIV test results in Yonkers?

Because the sample must be sent to a laboratory for investigation, most HIV test results might take anywhere from a few days to several weeks. On the other hand, some Yonkers clinics or doctor's offices may offer rapid HIV testing, which can deliver a diagnosis in as little as 20 minutes. Rapid HIV testing involve a little sample of blood or fluid obtained from the mouth. You'll need a follow-up blood test to confirm the diagnosis if a fast test comes up positive.

  • How much does an HIV test cost?

A variety of factors influence the cost of an HIV test, including the type of test you receive, the location where you are tested, and whether or not you have health insurance. HIV testing may be provided for free or at a low cost by some clinics or health authorities. If you're a college student, you might be able to get free HIV tests through your school.

  • Is HIV testing covered by my insurance?

The majority of insurance coverage cover HIV testing. The Affordable Care Act mandates that all new health plans provide free HIV testing for those aged 15 to 65. If you have any doubts about what is covered under your individual health plan, you can always call your insurance company or go to their website.

  • Where can I get an HIV test in Yonkers?

Many Yonkers health clinics, doctor's offices, and the health department offer HIV testing. Some pharmacies with on-site clinics may also be able to give HIV testing. Even though some clinics accept walk-in appointments, making an appointment ahead of time will save you time and ensure that you receive your test on the same day.

  • Can I get a same-day appointment for HIV testing?

Yes, Solv offers same-day and next-day HIV testing appointments. We collaborate with thousands of healthcare providers across the country to make it easier for everyone to access the medical assistance they require quickly and conveniently. • Can I test myself for HIV at home?

Although there are several home HIV tests available, not all of them are accurate or FDA-approved. For a home test, you'll need a swab from the inside of your mouth or a blood sample taken with a finger pricker. If you get a positive result on a home HIV test, you should see a doctor to confirm the diagnosis and start treatment.
