Upon walking up this morning, I was experiencing some difficulty with urination. I suspected it was a UTI. I didn’t make an appointment but was able to walk into Urgent Care and be seen in 20 minutes. Dr. Brian Gaspar confirmed it was a UTI, wrote a script for an antibiotic, and I was out the door in 30 minutes. Front desk staff were warm and welcoming, and the check in process was super quick and easy. Nurse Mikayla made me feel comfortable and at ease with her great bedside manner. Would highly recommend this facility!

The check in computer machines were too complicated for Senior Citizens and individuals who are not computer savvy.  We had to use several check in machines to check in. The receptionist had to use two machines before she could check us in. Staff was very nice.

About Gonorrhea Testing

Who should get tested for gonorrhea?

Anyone who is sexually active can contract gonorrhea, particularly if they have multiple partners or do not use protection during intercourse. However, certain groups are at a higher risk, including sexually active teenagers, young adults, and men who have sex with men. It is recommended that these high-risk groups get tested for gonorrhea annually. If you live in Somerset, NJ, or nearby areas such as Hillsborough, Raritan, Manville, Somerville, or Belle Mead, and fall into these categories, you should consider getting tested.

Importance of getting tested

Gonorrhea is a common sexually transmitted infection (STI) that, if left untreated, can cause serious health problems. According to the CDC, gonorrhea can lead to pelvic inflammatory disease in women, potentially resulting in infertility. In men, it can cause a painful condition in the tubes attached to the testicles, which can also lead to infertility if not treated. Regular testing allows for early detection and treatment, preventing these complications.

Gonorrhea testing options in Somerset, NJ:

Urgent care and walk-in clinics

Urgent care and walk-in clinics offer quick and convenient testing options. Live Urgent Care in Franklin Township, NJ, is a highly-rated option with a friendly staff and short wait times. You can book same-day or next-day appointments at Live Urgent Care through Solv's website or mobile app.

Primary care providers

Your primary care provider can also test for gonorrhea. If you're comfortable discussing your sexual health with your regular doctor, this can be a convenient option.

Free STD testing and community health centers

Some community health centers offer free or low-cost STD testing. These centers are a valuable resource, particularly for those without insurance or with limited financial means.

At-home testing

At-home testing kits are another option. These kits can be ordered online, used in the privacy of your home, and then sent back to a lab for analysis.

Prevalence of gonorrhea in Somerset

While specific data for Somerset, NJ, is not readily available, the CDC reports that gonorrhea rates have been on the rise nationally. It's important to remember that gonorrhea is often asymptomatic, meaning many people may have the infection without knowing it. This underscores the importance of regular testing, particularly in areas with increasing rates of the infection.

Risk factors related to gonorrhea in Somerset

Risk factors for gonorrhea include having multiple sexual partners, inconsistent condom use, and previous or co-existing sexually transmitted infections. Given Somerset's proximity to larger urban areas, residents may also be affected by factors such as higher population density and increased rates of STIs in nearby cities.

Other STDs in Somerset

In addition to gonorrhea, other common STDs include chlamydia, HIV, syphilis, and hepatitis. Regular testing for all these infections is recommended for sexually active individuals, particularly those in high-risk groups. Like gonorrhea, many of these infections can be asymptomatic, making regular testing crucial for early detection and treatment.
